What Is the Galaxy Z Flip?
The Galaxy Z Flip is a new Android-powered smartphone developed by Samsung. The South Korean tech company originally unveiled it during the 2020 Academy Awards, during which millions of viewers saw the folding the smartphone in a television commercial. On Feb. 14, 2020, Samsung gave retailers the green light to begin selling the Galaxy Z Flip.
While the Galaxy Z Flip contains typical hardware and software specifications for a premium smartphone, it's distinguished by its folding display. For the display - which is also the touchscreen interface - Samsung opted for a proprietary material that's more elastic than traditional glass or plastic. Known as Infinity Flex Display, it's essentially a hybrid material that contains glass as well as synthetic compounds. The combination of these materials allows the Galaxy Z Flip's display to bend and fold without breaking.
